Quality Control Technician

Title: Quality Control Technician

Report To: Quality Control Director

Summary: The Quality Control Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, quality, and consistency of our food and beverage products. This position is responsible for conducting routine quality control checks, performing laboratory analyses, and monitoring production processes to ensure compliance with all relevant food safety standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and results-driven individual with a strong understanding of food science principles and a commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Cutting, coloring and testing of all vinegar to effectively supply the bottling line and bulk shipments. 
  • Testing of mustard for acids, solids, viscosity and correcting variations in the process. 
  • Conduct routine inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with established quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform various laboratory analyses, including microbiological, chemical, and physical tests, on food products and raw materials.
  • Maintain detailed records of all quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, and any non-conformance reports.
  • Monitor production processes to identify and address any potential quality issues or deviations from established standards.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new quality control procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations to assess the taste, texture, aroma, and overall organoleptic qualities of food products.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Train production staff on quality control procedures, food safety practices, and relevant regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the quality control laboratory.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints related to product quality.
  • Stay informed of the latest industry trends, regulatory updates, and advancements in food safety and quality control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Control Director or Plant Management.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adheres to and follows Food Safety, Food Quality and SQF program requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including HACCP, GMP, and any other applicable standards.
  • Follows all program guidelines for Halal and Kosher certifications.
  • Follows plant GMP’s.

Education/Experience:

  • Three plus (3+) years of progressively responsible production management experience in a manufacturing environment; hands-on experience with all essential duties.
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate’s Degree in one of the following fields: Food Sciences, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering or equivalent preferred.  

Maintenance Technician/Mechanic

Title: Maintenance Technician/Mechanic

Report To: Maintenance Manager

Job Description:

Summary/Objective

The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, TPM maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the facility’s business goals and objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Include but are not limited to.

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment. 
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. 
  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities. 
  • Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. 
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. 
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. 
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities. 
  • Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions. 
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties. 
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations with proper supervision. 
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. 
  • Follows all program guidelines for Halal and Kosher certifications.

Work Environment:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. 
  • Work under variable temperature conditions.
  • Work within variable noise levels.
  • Outdoors/indoors.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.  
  • Prior experience in the food industry helpful.  
  • Experience in high-speed packaging or plastics industry helpful.  
  • PLC knowledge helpful.

Knowledge of Allen Bradley is extremely helpful.

Mustard Batch Maker

Title: Mustard Batch Maker  

Report To: Production Supervisor, Plant Supervisor, General Manager

General Purpose of Job: Ensure that mustard production lines are adequately supplied with mustard for bottling according to the following day’s production schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for adequately supplying mustard line product to meet daily schedule requirements.
  • Ensure that all Q.C. (Quality Control) specifications are met before mustard is bottled or drummed for a customer. Particle sizing will be issued with formulas. 
  • Inform mustard line supervisor of any changes or notify supervisor when tanks need to be changed to operate the production lines in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is dated and properly filled out at the end of shift.
  • Ensure that all mills are fully flushed and cleaned out according to the manufacturer’s specifications.   
  • Line must be pigged before product changes and on Fridays so lines can be cleaned (CIP) by mustard makers.
  • Ensure that samples are taken (as specified by Q.C.) for all products. These samples should be dated, clean, capped and brought to the Q.C. department. 
  • Ensure that formulas will be given to the mustard batch maker by Q.C. lab and followed as specified. 
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is worn at all times.
  • Ensure that area is kept clean and free of debris at all times Floors, Parts, Machinery, Hoses cleaned and capped hung when not in use.
  • Ensure that any problems with equipment are reported to the maintenance department or supervisor. 
  • Work with R & D (Research and Development) on developing new mustard products.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs is required along with lifting (At least 50 Lbs) and moving of various materials required.
  • Follows all program guidelines for Halal and Kosher certifications.
  • Follow and adhere to HACCP, SQF and GMP regulations.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by a supervisor.
  • Responsible for immediately identifying non-conforming product or equipment to their supervisor at any step of the operation.
  • Responsible for food safety and quality.

Filter Operator - Vinegar Batch Maker

Title: Filter Operator – Vinegar Batch Maker

Report To:     Vinegar Process Supervisor, Plant Supervisor, General Manager

General Purpose of Job: Prepare and supply production lines with vinegar and juices according to specifications from Quality Control and daily scheduling requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that vinegars and mustards are prepared within specifications for the production lines.
  • Ensure that all filters and stainless steel tanks are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that all filters, tanks, pumps and storage areas are cleaned properly by the end of their shift.
  • Ensure that all mustards and vinegars are properly blended by checking with Q.C. (Quality Control) and meet all specifications. 
  • Maintain batch production reports that track the efficiency of operations.
  • Ensure that all materials brought into the basement are labeled with the date received and used on a first in first out basis.
  • Make all minor repairs to the equipment or report problems to the maintenance department as needed. Follow up with the maintenance department to ensure that all repairs are made in a timely manner.
  • Conduct a weekly inventory of all materials remaining in the basement.
  • Use and train other employees in the use of hydrometers and titrators for the initial resting of product tanks. Work closely with the Lab to ensure that product tanks are brought quickly into specifications.
  • Work with the vinegar plant operators to insure that the proper products are brought into the basement tanks to meet production schedules.
  • Communicate with your Supervisor, the Production Supervisor, the Vinegar Plant Supervisor, and the Scheduler to anticipate and solve problems that would adversely affect plant production.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs is required along with lifting (At least 50 Lbs) and moving of various materials required.
  • Follow and adhere to HACCP, SQF and GMP regulations.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by a supervisor.
  • Responsible for food safety.
  • Follow all program guidelines for Halal and Kosher certifications.
  • Responsible for immediately identifying non-conforming product or equipment to their supervisor at any step of the operation.
  • Position covered by line leader.
